Rail transit will deliver energy-efficient transportation for Honolulu.

Rail transit is more energy efficient than cars and trucks. According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Transportation Data Book 2009, rail transit consumes 36% less energy than single occupant vehicles per passenger mile, and 53% less energy than trucks.
Taking cars off the road lowers our island’s dependence on foreign oil.

Honolulu’s rail transit system will be electrically-powered and could benefit from the most promising advances in future alternative energy sources, like H-power, wind, solar and ocean. Utilizing more renewable energy sources means importing less oil from foreign countries.
